Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively oozed glamour as they headed to The White House on Thursday to celebrate Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Vancouver-born Ryan, who donned a dark tuxedo, was joined by his American wife Blake, who wore a plunging silver satin gown to the glamorous event but suffered a minor wardrobe malfunction when the thigh split in her outfit exposed her bodyshaping underwear.

They headed to Washington, DC to celebrate the politician, who has been in office since November, at a state dinner hosted by US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle.

Other Canadian stars in attendance included comedian Mike Myers, Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox, former Grey's Anatomy star Sandra Oh and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. American singer Sara Bareilles provided the evening's entertainment.

The stars reportedly dined on baked Alaskan halibut casserole with spring vegetables followed by a main course of lamb splashed with Canadian whisky.

Sandra shared pictures on Twitter showing her greeting Obama. She wrote, "Shaking hands w/ @BarackObama @POTUS. Canada US love," and she later posted, "In the elevator on way back 2 hotel from White House State dinner honoring the Canadian PM @JustinTrudeau (sic)."

Trudeau shared photographs of him shaking hands with the stars and wrote on Twitter, "Our talented artists are a credit to Canada in the US & around the world. #StateDinner... Sophie and I could not have asked for a better evening. Thank you to the President & First Lady for your warmth, friendship & hospitality."

Obama extended the invite to Trudeau and his wife Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau shortly after he assumed office. He is the first Canadian official to visit Washington, DC in almost 20 years.

The state dinner is thought to one of the last the Obamas host before they leave The White House this year
