Actor Samuel L Jackson has been cast in the remake of cult classic The Blob.
The Pulp Fiction star will play a biochemistry professor who attempts to prevent the alien predator from wreaking havoc on Earth.
Jack Harris, the producer of the original 1958 film, will return for the reboot, which is set to shoot later this year.
"I have been waiting to work with Samuel L Jackson my whole career," says director Simon West.
"He is a unique talent in the industry, definitely one of a kind. I am so pleased that we will finally get to collaborate on this project."
The original film starred Steve McQueen and Aneta Corsaut.
The Blob was remade in 1988 by Chuck Russell, starring Kevin Dillon, Shawnee Smith and Donovan Leitch.
In 2009, rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie announced plans to bring The Blob back to the big screen, but it is unclear if he is still moving forward with his own rival project.
