Sarah Jessica Parker clashed with a Twitter follower over harsh remarks about her family.

The Sex and the City star revealed was outraged over a comment she read about her children on the social networking website. The actress felt horrified over the claims made about her twin daughters Tabitha and Marion, who were born via a surrogate.

"I see mean stuff every day: when I look at Twitter I scroll with one eye open and one eye closed," Sarah Jessica told The Edit Magazine.

"That particular day, it was just one of the things I saw."

Sarah Jessica was so angry about the message, which questioned whether her twin daughters were her biological children, that she felt she had to respond.

"I kept scrolling and then I was like, 'Wait a minute, did she just say that?'" Sarah Jessica explained.

"I went back and I thought, 'Well, this isn't unhealthy paranoia, this is absolutely conscious. This was a choice. She, not subtly at all, said that my children are not my children."

The New Year's Eve actress doesn't understand why she is often attacked on internet forums and social media sites. She doesn't court publicity about her private life but still has to deal with people who criticise her.

"What is it about me? I am not somebody who snows off her good fortune; I don't travel with bodyguards, I don't live a very glamorous life - I am afraid of all that," she added.

"I don't talk about my marriage, I am circumspect about my children. I sometimes regret that people don't understand all that I do and all that I am because I am embarrassed to talk about what I've accomplished - I think it sounds self-centric and narcissistic."

Sarah Jessica and her husband Matthew Broderick also have a son called James Wilkie.
