Sexy pop videos for adults only - Annie Lennox

Singer Annie Lennox has waded in to the debate over sexy music videos, insisting children need to be protected from raunchy images in pop.

The star admits she has nothing against young female singers shooting saucy clips but is urging stars such as Rihanna and Miley Cyrus to be aware of their young fans before filming promos.

In a post on her Facebook.com page, the former Eurythmics star writes, "There is absolutely nothing 'wrong' about our sexuality or sensuality per se. But if a performing artist has an audience of impressionable young fans and they want to present a soft porn video or highly sexualised live performance, then it needs to qualify as such and be X rated for adults only.

"I'm talking from the perspective of the parents of those young fans. The whole thing is about their children's protection."

Lennox's comments on Monday follow a scathing rant she published online on Saturday in which she accused record companies of "peddling highly styled pornography with musical accompaniment".

In the earlier post, she wrote, "I have to say that I'm disturbed and dismayed by the recent spate of overtly sexualised performances and videos... As if the tidal wave of sexualised imagery wasn't already bombarding impressionable young girls enough."
