Music mogul Simon Cowell hopes One Direction get back together following their hiatus next year.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' hitmakers upset fans when they confirmed they are taking an extended break in March after the release of their fifth album.

They reassured their followers the hiatus does not spell the end of the band, and their creator Cowell hopes they will return but is adamant he will not be forcing them to reunite.

He tells British newspaper Metro, "Like I've always done with the guys I said, 'well, you make your own decision. I hope you stay together but you've got to want to do it yourselves'... I hope (they come back) but it's not going to be because of any pressure from me."

He also told BBC Newsbeat, "They haven't announced an official break-up because I don't think they're sure they know what they want to do."

The X Factor boss also hinted Louis Tomlinson may have a role on one of his talent shows, telling Yahoo!, "I think Louis might be on one of the shows."
