The frontman of metal act Slipknot has slammed Australian concert promoter AJ Maddah and the Soundwave Festival, saying it "dicked over" his and other bands.

The often-outspoken Maddah hit back quickly, however, arguing he did all he could for the headlining act and "lost everything" after the festival went under.

Slipknot's Corey Taylor made the comments in an interview with News Corp Australia, saying Soundwave's demise was "a long time coming" due to "mismanagement".

"It was one of the coolest festivals to be a part of and yet so many bands got dicked over," says Taylor.

"A lot of bands suffered because of the mismanagement and it's a bummer because if it was handled right, that festival would still be going.

"It sucks doing business with those guys... but it was an absolute f**king pleasure to play."

The 2016 Soundwave festival was cancelled in December of last year, when it was reported that several acts from the 2015 event were collectively owed more than AU$10 million.

Maddah insists Slipknot are a "great band", but says Taylor's comments are "disappointing".

"They know we did our best for them at all times and over many successful tours. At the end of the day they still went home with millions of dollars from Soundwave and I lost everything," he tells News Corp.

According to documents from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, Slipknot was owed AU$1.6 million after their Soundwave 2015 performances.

Soundwave is not the only long-running Australian music festival to be scrapped in recent years - the Big Day Out, which Maddah was also involved in managing, has also been scrapped.
