Solange Knowles has earned her first number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with A Seat at the Table.

The sister of Beyonce has topped the US chart dated October 22, helping the siblings collectively claim a rare chart success.

Solange and Beyonce are among the few pairs of solo siblings to have both scored solo number ones - previously, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson managed the feat, as did Master P and his brother Silkk the Shocker, says Billboard.

It took 30-year-old Solange four years to write A Seat at the Table, which has sold 72,000 copies since its September 30 release - narrowly beating Bon Iver's latest release which sold 71,000 copies.

Beyonce, who just wrapped up her Formation World Tour on the weekend, has had six number one albums, including her latest record Lemonade, which was also released this year.
