Kiwi pop star Stan Walker is set to perform on the same stage as controversial religious leader Brian Tamaki at a Destiny Church event this weekend.

The 'Black Box' singer has often expressed messages about God's love, but will perform at the event despite what are widely seen as hateful, homophobic comments that put Tamaki back into the headlines last week.

Following the devastating North Canterbury earthquakes, the self-proclaimed 'bishop' caused outrage by saying 'human sin' caused the disaster - particularly homosexuality.

Three days later, Walker published this contradictory Christian tweet, although he didn't reference Destiny Church:

Destiny Church's 'Man Up' convention takes place at its Wiri, Auckland complex on November 26 - 27.

"It's time to ManUp New Zealand! The statistics have never been so bad as they are today and we have the answer!" exclaims the event's official Facebook page.

"Included is a Man-Feast, topped with a massive evening event featuring Stan Walker, Bishop Brian Tamaki's new book launch, White Ribbon and much more."

In September, Walker cancelled a tour of New Zealand after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Earlier this month when reality TV star Donald Trump won the US Presidential Election, Walker tweeted about it being sad and the country "needing Jesus" as a result.
