Hit TV show Stranger Things struck a chord with viewers with its '80s sci-fi nostalgia, which it looks to be doubling-down on in season two by casting Sean Astin and Paul Reiser.

The actors starred in The Goonies and Aliens, respectively; two hugely beloved '80s movies likely to be favourites of older Stranger Things fans.

For the younger audience, Linnea Berthelsen has also been added, a Danish newcomer who started acting in her late teens.

Netflix has released details on the three new characters, too, including one that sounds like the next Eleven.

Astin, who also starred in Lord of the Rings, will play a RadioShack manager named Bob who went to school with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour).

Reiser will play Dr Owens, who is tasked with covering up the supernatural goings-on of the previous year; while Berthelsen will play Roman, an emotionally damaged young woman also connected to the events of the first season.

Stranger Things season two will be released next year.
