Henry Cavill wants to play James Bond.

The British actor stars as Clark Kent in the upcoming Man of Steel, Hollywood's latest adaptation of the Superman franchise.

The 29-year-old has also been tipped to play Christian Grey in saucy movie Fifty Shades of Grey, but would most enjoy a turn as 007.

"What a wonderful challenge to follow up Daniel Craig," the star told Empire magazine. "He has set the bar so high."

James Bond aside, Henry says his current role couldn't have come at a better time. Having previously auditioned for the aborted Superman: Flyby in the early noughties, the actor is now well prepared to step into the famous blue suit.

"I've just got more experience as an actor and a human being," he said.

Man of Steel will see Clark Kent forced to confront his secret extraterrestrial heritage when Earth is invaded by members of his own race. Henry put on 20lbs. of muscle to play the superhero, but admits he doesn't know the first thing about his synthetic chainmail suit.

"I don't know what kind of material it is," he said. "It's a very compressed, sort of elastic-y type of material."

The star certainly cuts a handsome figure in the skin-tight costume.

Man of Steel hits cinemas from June.
