Susan Boyle receives honorary doctorate

Singer Susan Boyle was on "top of the world" after receiving her honorary doctorate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) on Tuesday (local time).

The 'I Dreamed a Dream' hitmaker was made a Doctor of Music by officials at the prestigious music, dance and drama school in Glasgow in her native Scotland.

She donned a purple cap and pink and purple gown to receive her degree at the graduation ceremony on Tuesday.

Afterwards, Boyle told BBC News she felt, "Absolutely top of the world. Very humble, very privileged. It's one of the best institutions and I'm really proud."

Previous RCS honourees include Annie Lennox, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly and Tilda Swinton.
