A 13-year-old girl received a standing ovation on America's Got Talent for a stand-up comedy routine that climaxed with a joke about Donald Trump.

Lori Mae Hernandez from California told the judges she became a comedian to help make her father smile after he was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, which makes facial movement difficult.

She then embarked on a routine about babysitting, which ended with a joke about former Celebrity Apprentice host Mr Trump's lack of political experience before his bid to become US President.

Following the audience's rapturous response, Ms Hernandez is told by Simon Cowell that she could be "the next Tina Fey or something".

"I thought he said Cast Away at first. I was thinking, 'Am I the next Tom Hanks or Wilson the volleyball?'" Ms Hernandez told media.
