The Angry Birds Movie review

What happens when you take the world's most downloaded and addictive games app and turn it into a movie? You get The Angry Birds Movie. But is the movie just as addictive?

Meet Red. He's a bird, quite an Angry Bird as it turns out.

Short of stature, short of fuse and short of friends, Red sees red on a regular basis. It's kind of a given that he's destined for anger management classes.

There he will meet some like-ish-minded birds of a feather, and while it's obvious even to the lowest of audience IQ that Red will soon make friends, to all intents and purposes, he's still an outsider. Then, the pigs arrive.

The birds are in quite a flap, beside themselves with joy at their exciting new visitors. But this time, instead of seeing red, Red sees trouble. These little piggies are simply up to no good.

I really wanted to like these birds and pigs much more than I did. The animation for a start is really top-notch. This film overall though is charmless, only sporadically funny and too frenetic and feverish in pace to be anything other than blink and miss.

These Angry Birds served only to ruffle my own feathers just enough to keep me awake.

Two stars.
