The Bachelor NZ: Fleur asks fans to stop abuse

Bachelor NZ winner Fleur Verhoeven has spoken out about the reaction to her shock split with Jordan Mauger, saying the last two days have been an emotional rollercoaster.

In a statement, Ms Verhoeven thanked fans for an "extreme outpouring of support", but added she is feeling "physically sick" about the way Mr Mauger and his family have been treated.

"They have been verbally abused and sent threats, all of which is completely distressing to them."

Ms Verhoeven goes on to ask the public to "step back and think" about the way he has been treated.

"Can we, for one moment, step back and think maybe the way Jordan has been portrayed over the last few days isn't completely accurate," she said.

She explained how her relationship with Mr Mauger changed in the weeks after filming ended: "Although I hoped that this was part of the process and something we could work through, Jordan told me in a very respectful way that he believed it was fair to go our separate ways."

Ms Verhoeven said she has no ill feelings towards her former partner, and praised his "honesty and integrity."
