After 15 years of dancing and training, twins Brooke and Starce Oneill have made quite the name for themselves.

The Oneill Twins are Hip Hop Dance gold medallists, starred in film Born to Dance, have opened for Ciara and worked with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Parris Goebel, Stan Walker, Vince Harder and Shapeshifter.

"We had friends that were hip-hop dancers and I was like, 'I want to do that'. And she just tagged along and we fell in love with it," Starce said on the Paul Henry programme this morning.

"I think I gave ballet a go for a year and it didn't work out," said Brooke.

The Oneill Twins are now also recording artists and have hit gold with their first single 'Boss As Chick'.

"We grew up doing kapa haka but we didn't do it professionally," said Starce.

"We thought dancing is exactly what we want to do, but then friends of ours - Stan Walker, Vince Harder and Abby Lee-Harder were like 'Girls, can you sing?'

"Then they told us to take it seriously and go in that direction, bringing dance and music together. And it's really fulfilled what we felt like we've missed for so long."

The twins spent time in LA working with different producers on the single - described as a dance anthem - written to bring together their love for dance with their passion to empower women of all ages to be the best they can be.

"'Boss As Chick' is about empowering women, standing strong for who you are and what you believe in," said Brooke.

"When we started creating this, we asked 'What is us? What are we going through right now?' That was about a year ago. I feel like we're still on a similar path, just being strong in who we are and what we believe in. So our direction and our vision is very important to us. The purpose that we carry with us, that's what it's about."

"Especially at this time with all the negative things happening in the world, we wanted to bring that confidence and positivity to the world. Because it's so bad at the moment," added Starce.

The video for 'Boss As Chick' was shot it in Auckland and portrays a battle between the twins' different styles and different crews to prove they are just as "boss" as each other.
