Social awkwardness provides plenty of fodder for many successful comedies: think shows like Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

A Wellington duo is turning humour into help with a new show called "The Outsiders' Guide To Beating Unease in Public."

The show, by Hayley Sprowll and Chris Parker, is about overcoming social awkwardness.

"When you look at us, you think 'wow, you know, they have got it together , they are the creme de la creme of Wellington'," says Ms Sprowll. "But it wasn't always like that. No, we were socially thick, we had no idea."

The pair says they don't want others to feel the pain they did - hence the creation of their self-help show.
