The Real Housewives of Auckland promise to be 'in your face'

Excitement is building around The Real Housewives of Auckland with the promise the show will be as good, if not better than the foreign shows.

Gilda Kirkpatrick is one of six housewives to be featured on the show, which premieres tonight at 8:30pm on Bravo.

The Iranian-born beauty is a prominent socialite as well as having a degree in architecture. She's also a children's author and works for advertising agency Us&Co.

She says she is more excited than nervous ahead of her debut.

"It feels like I've just finished running a marathon. It's quite satisfying because you have completed a project and for the next few weeks we get to see the result of it.

"It is quite exhausting to be honest to be aware of everything you do continuously."

Kirkpatrick, who was formerly married to property mogul and rich-lister James Kirkpatrick, promises the show will be as nasty and "in your face" as any of the foreign housewives series.

"I think it is one of those very rare programs where nothing is painted to be rainbows and butterflies. Everything is quite real and everybody's got a very strong personality."

When asked for tips on how to survive a reality TV show Kirkpatrick laughs, remembering moments gone wrong.

"You forget your mic and you might go to the bathroom, you might say something you shouldn't be saying. Then you have to deal with the consequences."

Kirkpatrick is well aware not everyone will like the show, but this businesswoman doesn't have time for haters.

"I've got so many things in my life. I work, I have two young children and I don't have time sit there and respond to negativity."

She says the storylines are so scandalous, even hinting at what's to come is off-limits.

"It is right in your face, so if I want to tell you I have to give away the scenarios, which I'm not allowed to."
