The Secret Life of Walter Mitty review

  • 20/12/2013

Based on the James Thurber short story, Ben Stiller takes Walter Mitty to the masses, targeting those yet to consider a world beyond the US border.

For that audience, his film may almost be considered inspirational, but for a nation of the world's greatest travellers built on the right of passage OE, I'd argue, not so much.

The gimmicky filmmaking tricks blurring the lines between Walter's imagination and his reality sapped my willingness to engage with his story.

As an obvious passion project for Stiller, who stars and directs, it sadly reeked of self-indulgence and missed its mark for me.

Two-and-a-half stars.
