While more than 60 million people each voted for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton to run the US, approximately 11,000 Americans reportedly placed their trust in a different leader.

Harambe, the gorilla shot and killed at Cincinnati Zoo earlier this year, is said to have received more than 11,000 votes from animal-loving Americans in the recent presidential election.

Harambe has become a busy political figure since his death in May, running for Mayor in Invercargill in addition to his campaign for US President.

While the gorilla may not have had much success with his efforts in the political sphere thus far, New Zealand will be holding a general election in 2017.
