Tinder gets a bit too social for some

Tinder users are furious after an update revealed their profiles to Facebook friends also using the dating app.

To make matters worse -- or better, depending on what you're in to -- the exposure coincided with the release of Tinder Social, a new feature that appears to be intended to facilitate group dating.

The company denies Tinder Social is meant to be used that way, writing in a blog post it's for "meeting great groups of new people, and turning a basic night out into a night you'll never forget". And not for group sex.

It's currently only being tested in Australia, but already there's a backlash. When opening it, it shows you which of your Facebook friends are also Tinder users. Previously, this was kept secret.

Tinder says it's not a bug, but a feature.

"It's important to note Tinder's not a secret considering 70 percent of users download Tinder because their friends recommend it," the company claims.

Tinder Social is on by default, but there's the option to opt out in the app's settings.
