The first trailer for Universal's reboot of The Mummy has been released, featuring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe.
The video suggests a heavily digital effects-driven film, with the studio promising "a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters".
Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sofia Boutella plays the film's titular villain, while Alex Kurtzman will direct, after producing several TV shows and the rebooted Star Trek films.
Other stars include Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B Vance.
In addition to directing The Mummy, Kurtzman is one of the architects of the upcoming Universal monster movie universe.
The Mummy is set for a New Zealand release on June 8, 2017.
