Two Pythons coming to town

The Pythons are coming to town next week -- well two of them at least -- as John Cleese and Eric Idle bring their new comedy show down under.

The pair have been friends for over 50 years, and their comedy collaboration on Monty Python has turned them into household names.

Idle and Cleese are back on the road -- their show "Together Again at Last - For the Very First time" is typically Python in title, and they take to the stage in Auckland.

So, after more than five decades together, these two godfathers of comedy describe their relationship as "watchful, circumspect, but fun".

Monty Python's Flying Circus simply took off after the show first aired on British television in the late 60s. The hilarious films of course took them global -- as well as albums, books, the stage musical and numerous tours.

Their show leverages their collective comic genius, and they feed off each other, so it's hardly surprising they have asteroids, rubbish dumps and snakes named after them.

The pair say "there's a snake called Monty Python, an extinct species of snake called Monty Pythonus".
