Video: Broadway stars unite, record song for Orlando

Stars from Broadway and beyond have united to record a charity single to benefit those affected by the Orlando nightclub shooting.

Fifty people died, including gunman Omar Mateen, when he opened fire in gay nightclub Pulse on June 12.

On June 15, dozens of actors, singers and songwriters -- including Matthew Broderick, Carole King, Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel and Sarah Jessica Parker gathered at New York's Avatar Studios to record a cover of Hal David and Burt Bacharach's 1965 song 'What the World Needs Now is Love'.

In a statement recorded for the song's music video, the stars expressed their support for those impact by the "act of violence and hate".

"All of us in the Broadway community are deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that occurred in Orlando.

"This terrible cycle of violence and intolerance must end. We want to put out as much love into the world as we can, because only love can conquer hate."

One hundred percent of the proceeds from downloads of the 'Broadway for Orlando' song will be donated to the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
