The top performers from across Auckland's secondary schools have turned up in Manurewa over the weekend in an attempt to earn themselves the Stand Up Stand Out title for 2016.

The competition, which was founded in 2007, is an effort to give a platform to young performers with potential - giving them an opportunity to emerge as stars of the future.

On Friday night, the best musicians and dancers turned out for the final, knowing that a chance to create a name for themselves and earn their school thousands of dollars in prizes was on offer.

Reigning solo champ Irene Folau pulled out a special performance, her voice soaring as she took out the competition again, not long after her semi-final performance of Gnarls Barkley's 'Crazy' went viral.

But she was far from the only winner, and though many of the final's participants left empty-handed, Stand Up Stand Out firmly established them as ones to watch in the coming years.
