Video: Tiki Āhua Fashion Show ignites the runway in Rotorua

The Tiki Āhua Fashion Show took place in Rotorua on Saturday night, and showcased the work of Māori designers and culture.

The inaugural event featured 22 designers and had a theme inspired by the Māori goddesses of fire, Kā Mura: Set Alight.

Outfits included streetwear, daywear, adornment, eveningwear and avant-garde. Designers put a new twist on traditional Māori arts, with pounamu and bone carvings on the runway, as well as live tā moko tattooing exhibited throughout the night.

"You don't need to be in Auckland or Wellington to be part of a thriving and successful fashion, design and art environment, and Tiki Āhua has clearly demonstrated that Rotorua has what it takes," says Te Puia general manager sales and marketing Kiri Atkinson-Crean.

Kiwi recording artist Che Fu closed the event in a grand finale.
