Xbox held its annual Gamescom media briefing overnight, announcing Halo Wars 2 and debuting gameplay of Crackdown 3, Scalebound and Killer Instinct Season 3.

New footage was also shown of Dark Souls III, Quantum Break, Rise of the Tomb Raider, FIFA 16, Just Cause 3 and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

343 Industires announced the return of the Halo World Championship with a US$1 million prize pool, Xbox One console bundles for Halo 5: Guardians and FIFA 16 were unveiled, DVR for Over-the-Air TV for Xbox One was announced along with a host of new ID@Xbox games including Worms WMD, Thumbleweed Park, Train Simulator, Ark: Survival Evolved, Sheltered, We Happy Few and Bloodstained.

Also announced is that Xbox One backward compatibility will be launching in November, with 100 titles and Games with Gold support. Among those games is Gears of War and Shadow Complex, both of which are available to Xbox Preview members as of today, and other backwards compatible games confirmed include Rainbow Six Vegas and Rainbow Six Vegas 2, both of which are included with the Xbox One version of Rainbow Six Siege, and Just Cause 2, which is included with Just Cause 3.

Microsoft also announced that Xbox One owners will get early access to the Homefront multiplayer beta which is set to launch later this year. Homefront: The Revolution is an open-world FPS where players must lead the Resistance and wage guerrilla warfare against a superior military force.

Halo Wars 2, a sequel to 2009's Halo Wars, is being developed by Sega company Creative Assembly, the studio best known for its Total War strategy series. It's set for release on Xbox One and Windows 10 in (southern) spring 2016.

The original game was developed by the now-defunct Ensemble Studios and Microsoft claims it "redefined real-time strategy on consoles". It has a Metacritic rating of 82.

Xbox is launching Rare Replay this month, kicking off its 2015 games line-up, which the company says is the greatest in its history.
