Actor/rapper Will Smith is reuniting with his longtime friend DJ Jazzy Jeff for a 2016 world tour as part of his musical comeback.

The Independence Day star has been absent from the music scene for a decade, but he's planning to revive his career in a big way by returning to his DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince roots.

The duo recorded five albums together and won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for 'Parents Just Don't Understand', but the pals have never hit the road for an extensive run of dates.

"Jeff and I actually have never done a full tour," Smith told Beats 1 Radio host Zane Lowe.

"I was always on (TV series) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, or making a movie. So I'm looking this summer to be the first time we go out on a full world tour."

Smith has been hard at work in the studio recording new tracks, revealing he's already laid down 30 songs for his next album, but, although he's a showbusiness veteran, Smith admits he's still nervous about making a return to music after such a long break.

"I'm terrified," he confessed.

"I have so many things I want to say, and I'm struggling to say them in a way that fit the flavour of music I tend to like... But I'm really ready, man. I've got a whole lot of heart to share, and I'm really excited about getting it into my music."

Last week, Smith released his first new song, titled 'Fiesta', a collaboration with Colombian band Bomba Estereo.
