Willy Moon is a Kiwi musician with fans all over the planet. He's been on the Tonight Show, and his music videos have had millions of views on YouTube.

The 23-year-old lives in London, and most assume he was born there. But in fact, the immaculately dressed musician is from Wellington and he's in New Zealand on a visit.

Sick of hotel rooms, we did an interview with the musician in a nearby graveyard – no reason really, except it was nearby.

"I find myself waking up and just laughing at the absurdity of everything," says Willy Moon.

He's even laughing at the fact his music is in an iPod ad. Vogue has called him "one of the year's biggest stars" and The Guardian has written he "looks as good as he sounds".

"I remember getting teased for the clothes I'd wear as a kid, and I thought, 'Hang on a minute, what I wear is affecting how people react to me as a person.' This is a big deal."

So he started dressing up, and now here we are.

Next week he's in the United States launching his debut album, Here's Willy Moon. It's not bad for a guy who made his first music video with his girlfriend and just popped it on the internet to see what would happen.

"We did that for 100 quid and put it up on YouTube," he says. "But it was really basic. We just got this huge spotlight and didn't realise how big it was until we couldn't get it in the back of the car!"

It's all spoken like a true New Zealander – one who's learned how to dress for success.
