An American woman has been charged after allegedly drowning a puppy when she found out the young canine could not fly with her.

Cynthia Anderson, 56, is reported to have had three puppies and two dogs with her before she flew from an airport in Nebraska.

Anderson was informed that the three-week-old puppies were too young to fly.

Police claim that the woman gave two of the animals to her parents and smuggled another on to the aircraft where she allegedly drowned it.

Upon examination, water was found in the puppy's lungs and the cause of death was given as drowning.

Anderson is being held on charges of animal abuse at Hall County Jail.
