In a remote Colombian village, many locals have a 50 percent chance of developing Alzheimer’s Disease.
They agreed to let scientists study the genetic mutation that makes them so vulnerable to the disease – monitoring their condition whilst alive and even donating their brains after death.
The research is already yielding results, and has been published in the Lancet medical journal.
It shows Alzheimer’s may develop as much as two decades before symptoms first become apparent.
