Investing in science is often touted as a way for New Zealand to kick start it's economy.
But how well are we doing on that front?
New Zealand's National Centre for Growth and Development has invited one of Europe's most celebrated scientists to be part of an international scientific advisory board that will review and guide its research work.
Patrick Cunningham, a professor in animal genetics, has also delivered a lecture comparing our economy with that of his native Ireland, which has invested heavily in research and development.
