Various conservation groups marched to Parliament this afternoon in support of the urgent measures proposed to save the dwindling Maui's dolphin population.
There are an estimated 55 Maui's dolphins left, down from 111 in 2006, making it the world's rarest dolphin.
The Government is proposing to extend a set-net ban on the North Island's west coast in an urgent attempt to save the dolphin from extinction and they are currently consulting with local businesses.
The Department of Conservation (DOC) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are currently seeking public submissions.

Today's march was organised by a number of conservation groups, including Earthrace, who said in a statement:
"If immediate action is not undertaken to increase the protection for our 'New Zealand' dolphins we will see them join a sad list of creatures that have been lost forever."
Forest & Bird and Greenpeace are asking for a total ban on all set nets out to depths of 100m.
