It’s not just humans that are feeling the heat in Australia, as temperatures soar across the country.
The same heatwave which has caused catastrophic bushfires in the southern and eastern states has driven some of the star residents at Queensland’s Australia Zoo to seek refuge in their swimming pool.
The zoo’s tigers have been caught on camera cooling off in their pool, which features the only underwater viewing area in the Southern Hemishphere.
According to the zoo’s head of tigers, Giles Clark, the big cats love to be in the water.
“Our tigers swim or lounge in the shallow parts of the pool during the heat of the day. In the wild, they would find a river, stream or lake,” he says
But when they're not splashing about, Mr Clark admits the tigers are as lazy as any house cat.
“They’re very, very lazy, so we can expect them to be resting for at least 18-20 hours a day.”
