Greens coalition with National "hypothetical question" - Norman

A Green Party coalition with National would involve major policy concessions for the current Government, says co-leader Russel Norman.

Radio New Zealand reports Mr Norman said the Greens would consider a “highly unlikely” confidence and supply agreement with National.

"Any kind of agreement would have to be focused on policy and that would both be making gains in our key areas as well as looking at the other parts of National's policy agenda - whether it be welfare reform, which we don't agree with what they're up to, or asset sales, which we also don't agree with what they're up to," said Mr Norman on the Nine to Noon programme.

Speaking to 3 News though Mr Norman said his comments on Radio New Zealand should not be seen as a change in the Green Party’s position.

“We have had exactly the same position since June,” he said.

“It is such a hypothetical question, if National adopted all of our policies of course we would consider it – but that is extremely unlikely.”

Mr Norman told RNZ a more likely outcome would be an extension of their current memorandum of understanding.
