Love it or hate it, The Hobbit has well and truly hit Wellington and 3 News is not the only one reporting on it.

Media from all over the globe are pouring in for Wednesday's red carpet premiere.

Come Wednesday, much will be made of actors walking the red carpet, but what about those packed in around it, like Entertainment Tonight's Debbie Matenopolous?

“This is huge,” says Ms Matenopolous. “It is going to be massive in the States. I get to go to Hobbiton. I get to go to Weta. I get to put on some Hobbit feet. I get to interview some hobbits on a plane!”

But today the Hollywood reporter is off on a media tour – first stop, Hobbiton Woods on Mt Victoria.

The event is so tightly managed even media numbers are hush-hush. But 3 News has been told off the record that more than 100 outlets from all around the world are here.

Then it's out of the woods and up to the summit for a dose of good old-fashioned Middle-earth wind, with windy Welly blowing the journalists about.

Italian reporter Carola Proto is here filming an Italian documentary.

“Everybody was envious because I was doing this trip in New Zealand,” she says, “so everybody dreams about coming here.”

And with that the crews were off, with our new Hollywood friend gearing up for an early start tomorrow at 4:30am, to hit the ground running with some dwarves.
