Rodney Hide: Perk buster or just busted

Rodney Hide has said “sorry” and repaid a total of $22,000 - which was the cost of taking his girlfriend on taxpayer funded trips to Hawaii, London, Canada and the US.

The fact the opinionated politician has apologised and given the money back, is clearly a point in his favour.

Mr Hide is not the first MP to take advantage of parliamentary travel perks, but what is more galling about his feasting from that trough, is that he was the man who campaigned against such opportunism.

He was the man who promised something better, and more ethical, the man who would hold such behaviour to account - he was the 'perk buster'.

Campbell Live takes to the streets of Newmarket to gauge public opinion on the beleaguered politician.
