Veteran hip-hop star Uncle Luke is considering taking the story of his controversial rap group 2 Live Crew to the big screen following the hype surrounding the new N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.

The 54 year old, real name Luther Campbell, has shared his memories of his life in the limelight with the Me So Horny hitmakers in his new autobiography, The Book of Luke: My Fight for Truth, Justice, and Liberty City, and now he is interested in adapting the project for the cinema.

Speaking at a convention with the National Association of Black Journalists last week (ends07Aug15), he said, "With the (buzz) of Straight Outta Compton, people wanna hear the story of 2 Live Crew."

Campbell and his 2 Live Crew bandmates rose to fame in 1985 and became known for their sexually explicit lyrics and outrageous performances. One X-rated show in their native Florida landed them in police custody on obscenity charges in 1990, but they were later acquitted.

They also hit headlines in 1993 after the group was sued over its Pretty Woman track, a parody of Roy Orbison's 1964 hit Oh, Pretty Woman. The groundbreaking copyright infringement case was heard in the U.S. Supreme Court, where judges ruled in favour of the 2 Live Crew, declaring a commercial parody can qualify as fair use.

The band originally split in 1991, but has staged a number of reunions ever since.
