Mai FM's Lily Taurau to fight Naz Khanjani

It's official -- Mai FM breakfast show host Lily Taurau will be stepping into the ring with Naz Khanjani, the runner-up of the second season of The Bachelor NZ.

The pair will face off on the undercard of Joseph Parker's heavyweight bout with Solomon Haumono in Christchurch on July 21.

Ms Taurau edged out Bella Henry for the privilege of trading punches with Ms Khanjani and says she's excited to finally get in the ring.

"When Naz announced she needed an opponent I knew I had to put myself forward.  Jumping in the ring would be a tick off my bucket list. I know there's a lot of Kiwi women who will be backing me and who would have loved the opportunity for themselves."

This morning, Parker made the announcement himself in a video posted to the Duco Boxing Facebook page.

"I just want to say good luck to Lily and Naz and let's all put on a great show for the Christchurch fans."

Ms Henry, daughter of broadcaster Paul Henry, says she's gutted to have missed out on the fight.

"I've been wanting to do a fight for a while now and Naz is pretty much the perfect person to fight," she says.

"I was really keen to fight Naz, and obviously the Joseph Parker fight would be amazing."

When asked about speculation Duco could sign her up for Fight For Life in December, Ms Henry says she would be keen.

"I've always looked at Fight For Life, it's what first got me interested in doing a fight. I'm just keen to get in a ring and punch something!"

The pair made the shortlist after a number of woman came forward offering to fight Ms Khanjani.

The 25-year-old's been training with the Parker camp -- recently posting a photo with Brian Barry on Twitter.
