Troubled pop star Kanye West has taken to Twitter to explain his meeting with Donald Trump and seemingly announce the postponement of his upcoming presidential run.

The 'Monster' singer, who recently suffered a mental breakdown, met with the US President-elect in the lobby of Trump Tower in New York.

As Kanye and Trump appeared before reporters, the rapper refused to answer questions as the controversial billionaire called him a "good man" and a "friend".

"I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues," Kanye later announced on Twitter.

"These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago. I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change."

His latest tweet simply reads: "#2024".

In August 2015, Kanye announced he would run for US President in 2020. His latest tweet, however, suggests that he'll wait until the following election, to not compete with Trump.
