Actors slam Donald Trump at SAG Awards

Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have turned out for the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

Not surprisingly, many used the event to slam US President Donald Trump's immigration ban.

It's perhaps Hollywood's least-talked-about awards ceremony and before the formalities had even begun there was a silent message to the US President.

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who took home the first award of the night, didn't hold back her disdain for Mr Trump.

"I'm the winner, the winner is me, landslide," she said.

She used her acceptance speech to deliver a powerful message.

"I want you all to know that I am the daughter of an immigrant. This immigrant ban is a blemish and it is un-American."

Orange is the New Black won Best Ensemble in a Comedy for a third consecutive year, Taylor Schilling using her time in the spotlight to celebrate diversity.

"We'd like to say that we stand up here representing a diverse group of people, representing generations of families who have sought a better life here."

Lily Tomlin received the Lifetime Achievement Award while Denzel Washington and Emma Stone took out the Best Actor SAGS.

And if there was an award for most powerful speech, it would surely have gone to David Harbour from the sci-fi series Stranger Things.

"We still shelter freaks and outcasts, those who have no home. And we will do it with soul, with heart and with joy."

Biographical drama Hidden Figures took out the big one of the night - Best Cast in a Motion Picture.

As usual, the red carpet was a flurry of fabulous with colour, class and creativity - a pretty impressive dress rehearsal for the Oscars in two-weeks' time.
