Wolverine isn't going out quietly.
The trailer for Logan has been released and it's an intense, bloody montage teasing Hugh Jackman's supposed final outing as the mutant.
Set in the year 2024, the X-Men are all but gone, save an aging Logan and Professor X, whose respective powers are fading.
Meanwhile, a shady corporation called Transigen is turning mutant children into weapons. One of them is a girl named Laura, who needs Wolverine (aka Logan) to stop self-medicating with booze and unleash hell.
Ryan Reynolds may be able to convince Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine for a Deadpool crossover, but the Aussie actor reckons Logan will be the end.
"It just felt like it was the right time to do it. And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it," Jackman said in an interview.
"I kind of have in my head what we're going to do in this last one. It just feels like this is the perfect way to go out."
Logan will be in cinemas in March, while Deadpool 2 will be released in January, 2018. X-Men movie spinoffs for Gambit, New Mutants and X-Force are also being developed.
