Hollywood superstars Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling have touched down in Queenstown, ahead of their upcoming shoot in New Zealand.

The trio are in the country in order to film the $140 million Disney film A Wrinkle In Time.

They landed in Queenstown at around 8pm on Sunday, having travelled from LA in Winfrey's private jet.

After clearing airport services they were bustled away in Land Rovers towards what's believed to be a private residence in Wanaka, where they are staying.

Witherspoon took a number of selfies on the tarmac, sharing an embrace with Winfrey before they left.

Several scenes were shot for the film on Saturday in the Hunter Valley by Lake Hawea, and it's believed the trio will be in the area for two weeks for the shoot.

Security staff, producers and the film's director were also on the jet.

Winfrey was only recently in New Zealand, speaking exclusively to Three in 2015 and performing a one-off show in Auckland.

Witherspoon and Kaling have enthusiastically taken to social media to share their excitement about coming to New Zealand, Kaling saying she "couldn't be more excited" and Witherspoon posting that she "can't wait to explore NZ with [Kaling]!!!".

A Wrinkle In Time is a fantasy adventure directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Jennifer Lee, based on the 1962 novel series by Madeleine L'Engle. The movie is set to be released in the US on April 6, 2018.

Other members of the star-studded cast who could very well be voyaging to New Zealand include Zach Galifianakis, Chris Pine and Rowan Blanchard.
