Foo Fighters break hiatus with surprise show

  • 25/02/2017

The Foo Fighters have ended their hiatus with a surprise concert in the UK and an announcement that they'll be playing Glastonbury this year.

The 'Everlong' hitmakers debuted new material during the gig - their first since November 2015 - at Cheese and Grain, a non-profit venue in Somerset, England.

The rockers were scheduled to perform at Glastonbury in 2015, but axed several shows when their frontman, Dave Grohl, broke his leg.

"We're incredibly lucky to have the Foo Fighters headlining on the Saturday night this year," Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis told media.

"It was obviously devastating when they had to pull out in 2015 - and the thought, effort and generosity they've put into this announcement is just unbelievable."

With a capacity of 500 in its main hall, the Cheese and Grain is a much smaller venue than stadiums the Foo Fighters usually play. The gig followed a number of cryptic clues given to fans, including boarding cards for Obelisk Airlines being mailed out.

In addition to Glastonbury, the band is set to headline many other major European festivals this year, including Denmark's Roskilde, Belgium's Rock Werchter and Portugal's NOS Alive.
