Hollywood superstars in Wanaka for Disney movie

The $140 million Disney film A Wrinkle in Time is being shot in New Zealand over the next few weeks and there's much talk about the superstars jetting in.

Oprah Winfrey, Reece Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project fame are here to shoot the film and are said to be staying in a private house in Wanaka.

Although the stars were nowhere to be seen on Saturday, evidence of the big production was.

Saturday's scenes were being filmed in the Hunter Valley by Lake Hawea, about 30 minutes drive from the resort town.

The stars seem to be as excited about their trip as their local fans are.

Witherspoon tweeted that she was visiting for the first time and asked for recommendations.

Kaling, also asking for travel tips, said she couldn't be more excited and not only was the country "so beautiful" but also home to some "stellar comedy".

Oprah Winfrey, who's been to New Zealand recently, has also been boasting about the visit.

Trampers in the remote Kidds Bush campground were very excited to hear of the nearby shoot - although Australian campers complained it would ruin their peace and quiet.

Cast and crew are here for two weeks before relocating the production office back from rural Central Otago to California.
