LGBT lyrics axed from Lady Gaga song for BBC singing competition Let it Shine

A BBC reality TV show has come under fire after one of the competing bands performed a version of Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' without crucial pro-gay rights lyrics.

The boy band Iron Sun performed Gaga's hit song in the Let It Shine semifinal, but left out lyrics including: "No matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgendered life. I'm on the right track baby, I was born to survive."

They also failed to sing the repeated line "Don't be a drag, just be a queen", instead inserting an extended dance break.

The song was cut down to three minutes for the show, but many viewers were unhappy that many of its key messages of acceptance and diversity were left out.

"How dare you butcher #BornThisWay on #letitshine, removing the lyrics from the song that give it its meaning and power. SHAME ON YOU!!!" one person posted on Twitter.

"#letitshine and @BBC you should be ashamed for amputating #BornThisWay Judges should resign in protest!" said another.

Neither the show nor the band has responded to criticism on social media.

Despite the band's efforts, they were eliminated from the singing competition.
