The best reactions to the Moonlight, La La Land Oscars Best Picture stuff-up

Awards season can be a stuffy affair filled with obvious winners, overly sentimental speeches and boring ceremonies.

The 2017 Oscars was anything but.

The 89th Academy Awards climaxed with the biggest mistake in its long history, accidentally giving the wrong film the biggest award of the night for a minute or so.

It made for the most exciting Oscars in living memory and thanks to cameras being everywhere along with famous people using social media, the reactions have been just as enjoyable.

La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz was very gracious as he realised what was going on and made sure the Moonlight team got their moment, personally handing a trophy to director Barry Jenkins.

But what was the People's Eyebrow doing during the panic and confusion? See for yourself in the image below, which catalogues the reactions not only of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, but also Meryl Streep, Ben Affleck and Salma Hayek, among others.

A wider crop of the same photo also shows the Best Performance in a Facial Expression nominees of Matt Damon and Michelle Williams.

Up on the balcony, in the cheap seats of the Dolby Theatre, people were a little more visibly, physically shocked.

In the realm of 140 character hot takes that is Twitter, beyond the countless obligatory "OMG!" and "WTF!" tweets, some comedic gold was to be had.

M Night Shyamalan - which translates from Hollywood to English as "ridiculous shock ending" - can safely claim the trophy for Best Oscars Tweet, so long as PwC isn't in charge of printing.
