The Project NZ stars on The Project Australia

Following the launch of The Project on Three on Monday night, hosts Kanoa Lloyd, Josh Thomson and Jesse Mulligan crossed live from the studio into the show's Australian counterpart.

Waleed Aly, Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar - the hosts of the show across the ditch - were keen to know how the New Zealand version's debut went.

"No one's told us we're fired yet, we're very grateful for that," said Lloyd.

"We really appreciate you guys letting us steal something off you for once."

"I stuffed up my first joke," added Thomson.

"No one noticed that until Rove said 'Josh stuffed up his first joke.'"

Rove McManus, who was a guest host on the Three show last night, owns the format with his Roving Enterprises company.

He also made an appearance in the live cross and was asked what was coming after the New Zealand show.

"Do you have anything in mind for other spin-offs - The Project: SVU or The Project: Miami?" joked Helliar.

The Aussie hosts also marvelled at the likeness of the new show to theirs and joked about it potentially being a parallel universe.

The Project's second episode will be broadcast on Three at 7pm tonight before being viewable on ThreeNow.
