It's the legal battle of the Kylies – and Ms Minogue, the little Aussie battler, has come out on top.

The pop star has scored a legal victory over Kylie Jenner, after the American reality TV star attempted to trademark the name "Kylie".

The battle has been raging since the trademark application was lodged in April 2014 – and now British media have reported that Minogue has successfully challenged the application.

Lawyers for Minogue indicated Kylie Jenner was not a big enough star to be granted the trademark – describing the half-sister of Kim Kardashian as a "secondary reality television personality".

Minogue has been arguably the most famous Kylie since the 1980s and is often referred to by only her first name.

Team Minogue sent a letter to the US Patent and Trademark Office challenging the application by Jenner, who runs her own fashion and beauty businesses as well as appearing in the hit TV show Keeping up with the Kardashians.

The patent office has now rejected Jenner's application, though she is expected to appeal the decision.
