Adele Auckland show: Teen called onstage for selfies, bug-killing

Acclaimed British singer Adele's first Auckland show has been widely praised as an amazing experience for its 45,000 fans, but no one had quite the encounter as one young woman.

Fifteen-year-old Teagan Gunn had come up from Hamilton with her auntie. They're both massive fans, she told The Edge.

"We were front row - so pretty close.

"I had a toy for her - a kiwi soft toy - and we tried our best to get noticed by wearing flowers in our hair.

"She pointed at me about five minutes before she asked me onstage - that freaked me out, and about five minutes she asked me onstage.

"I was right next to a gate, they let me in, I walked up the stairs and she was right there!"

She told JJ, Dom and Randell she got about eight selfies with the pop star.

"Clean the screen!" Adele said as Teagan held her phone up.

"I think it's just Samsung quality," Teagan told The Edge.

Adele had been having problems onstage with beetles bugging her as she performed. It was Teagan's job to get rid of them.

"You live here, come on, you're used to it," she told Teagan.

"I think she chose the wrong person, I'm a bit scared of bugs," Teagan said on Friday.

The Rototuna Senior High student is expecting it will be a big day at school.

"I’ll be going in a bit later, and everyone's talking about it already."

She said the experience was definitely the highlight of her life so far, even though she's also seen Sam Smith and Macklemore perform.

"It was more than what I wanted, it was amazing."
