The first images and plot details of Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok have been released, revealing new main characters and a short-haired, hammer-free Thor.
Released via Entertainment Weekly, the pics provide the first looks at Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson in the sequel, as well as returning star Tom Hiddleston.
The third Thor film's storyline will see Goddess of Death Hela (Blanchett) accidentally released from imprisonment before sending Thor to the planet Sakaar. There, he will be forced to battle his former Avengers teammate the Hulk.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople filmmaker Waititi told the magazine fans shouldn't be worried that he'll turn the film into a silly comedy.
"I think sometimes people mistake a tonal shift as 'We're just going to make some ridiculous broad comedy where no one gives a shit what happens and everyone gets stoned and sits around talking about saving the universe," says Waititi.
"We want people to care what happens and care that the hero succeeds. I think tonally it's like a slight shift. I don't feel nervous - I feel good about it."
Thor: Ragnarok will be released in New Zealand on October 26.
